Summer saving of 29 million euros

The energy crisis is a reality, but solar energy already provides a solution!

The summer of 2022 clearly showed us the importance of solar energy production in Europe. Europe is facing a major energy crisis; electricity prices are constantly rising, drought has reduced production in hydropower plants, and France alone has as many as 32 nuclear power plants that have been temporarily closed. In these conditions, solar energy provided significant relief.

Thanks to solar power systems, several EU countries (between May and August) avoided importing 20 billion cubic meters of gas, saving as much as 29 billion euros! Out of the total savings, the amount of six billion euros has been saved because of the new solar installations connected to the electricity grid since 2021.

Solar power systems generated record amounts of electricity this summer, equaling the share of the energy with wind (12%), closing in on coal (16%) and overtaking hydropower (11%).

When it comes to individual countries, solar power systems shined the brightest in the Netherlands (23%), Germany (19%) and Spain (17%). Solar achieved record percentages across 18 of the 27 EU member states.

Statistics for 2021 tell us that the European Union has 162 GW of solar power systems, which is about 60 GW more than in 2018. The solar transition is definitely entering its heyday.
